THE ARTIST BEHIND THE ART

Self Portrait of artist in high contrast

Behind the name "Rubberkiwi"

Back in 2006ish, I decided to make an art account on an old website and wanted a very random username. I didn't want it to mean anything to anyone when they heard it but would be fun to say. So I decided to put 2 words together that don't usually belong together. The B sound in "rubber" is fun to say. The double "ee" sound in "kiwi" is fun to say. Bing bang boom and away we go with "rubberkiwi". I have stuck with it because it's just so much fun for me to say!

Some things to look at Or read about

Explore the world of art and design through my curated portfolio. You'll see things like pencil portraits and acrylic paintings to graphic design elements like logos and signs. On my blog, let me tell you about my process and pieces a bit more in depth or give you access behind the scenes of works in progress.

"i'm gonna be an artist when i grow up"

I grew up with an artistic mother and sister that helped me get into art at a very young age. My kindergarten teacher noticed some talent when I could represent stacked images when drawing in class. I have had many teachers since who motivated me to pursue the arts because of my visual and spatial awareness and artistic skill. I now truly love the challenge of a good portrait as I have felt the human face is one of the hardest things to capture.

Over the years, I have gotten heavily inspired by Vincent van Gogh along with other artists such as Berthe Marisot, Edward Hopper, Sally Mann, and Edgar Degas. I love to delve deep into art history to the point where I would include hundreds more artists people should know about. I believe art is making something as an expression of yourself, your thoughts, dreams, and how you see the world. That art helps and heals humanity. I hope that if all else, I can contribute to that ideal.
